Strokes in young adults who use marijuana are more likely to be caused by stenosis, narrowing of the arteries, in the skull than strokes in non-users, new research shows. Previous studies found an association between marijuana use and stroke, but the new study is the first to explore differences in stroke in marijuana users and non-users, an approach that can help identify possible mechanisms for stroke in users.

If this is true, then smoking cannabis increases our risk of stroke by increasing the clogging of our arteries to the brain.  OTOH, causality is not shown, and the cannabis could lead to munchies which could lead to unhealthy snacks containing partially hydrogenated oils, which are KNOWN to cause arterial damage and plaque.

In any case, this is something to watch and indeed is a cause of concern, but there is not enough evidence to justify altering one’s cannabis use….YET.
