Here we go again:

“While it never used to be a major cause for concern, recent research has pointed to links between the drug and an increased risk of road traffic accidents, psychosis, HIV, hepatitis, infective endocarditis and TB.”

BULLSHIT!  This is misleading, because the “links” mean “correlation” or “coincidence”– no causality is shown.  And, if you think about it for a while, this undermines the researcher’s thesis.  Clearly, cannabis cannot cause hepatitis, infective endocarditis, or TB, so if there are common causes, then these same causes in common that are likely to be affecting the fetus.

For example, cannabis use in pregnancy would raise flags for most people with education, as ANY kind of medication may impact fetal development.  We know what tobacco or alcohol use during pregnancy does to a fetus.  Cannabis MAY cause problems too, and anyone with half a brain would suggest, this may not be a good idea.  But, those that do so anyway, are likely poorly educated, may be indulging in other activities that may affect a fetus, which may be more likely to be causal.

Yes, I wrote a lot of “mays” in that paragraph because we simply don’t know, but my point is that this paper proves nothing but correlation, and no mention is made of any effort to exclude other, potentially causal, factors, hence the BULLSHIT ALERT!
